Meet Uganda’s black and white forest  monkey.

Also scientifically identified as the Colobus monkey.

Colobus monkeys dwell in second growth or rather degraded forests where they feed on flowers, fruit and leaves. They are a typical example of habivores.

In Uganda, the monkeys will be found jumping from one tree branch to another at the sight of any passers by at the entry of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The ability to move quickly through trees is thanks to their nature; Colobus which is derived from the Greek word ‘Kolobus’ that means maimed. Unlike other primates, the limbs of Uganda’s Black and White Colobus monkeys bear no thumbs.

This peculiar type of primate boasts in a black body with a white back, beards and shoulders. Coats made from their rich fur were most popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
